Root Canals In Lawrenceville, GA

Also serving Duluth, Norcross, Suwanee & Arbor Trace

Like other branches of medicine, there are several specialties in dentistry. For example, orthodontics focuses on your bite and teeth alignment. Endodontics (which many people are not familiar with) is a dental specialty that focuses on the nerves of your teeth. In this particular field of dentistry, the root canal procedure is perhaps the most well-known.

In fact, although few people have heard of Endodontics, it seems like everyone is afraid of getting a root canal. But you don’t have to be afraid of this procedure when you choose Optima Dental.

The Truth About Root Canal Pain

Many new patients who come to our dental clinic in Lawrenceville, Georgia seem to think that a root canal treatment causes nightmarish pain. But that’s hardly true.

It’s more likely that the pain is a symptom of your tooth problem. You will need a root canal treatment when you feel pain every time you bite down on your food. Another symptom is a dull ache when you eat something hot or cold. If you have swollen gums or chronic pain in your upper jaw along with your toothache, then it’s an indication that you require a root canal treatment.

Our root canal treatment involves very little pain because we use a local anesthetic that makes the entire procedure as painless as getting fillings for your cavities. Afterward, you may feel some soreness, but that’s common for many dental procedures. Any over-the-counter pain medication is usually sufficient to deal with the discomfort, but we can also prescribe pain medication to be sure.

The truth of the matter is, our root canal treatment frees you of pain. Once it’s done, you will no longer experience any pain when you bite down on your food or when you eat something hot or cold.

The Root Canal Procedure

We start the root canal by administering a local anesthetic around the area of the affected tooth. This makes it numb so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. Then we carefully drill into your tooth to make an opening into the canal. That opening allows our dentist to remove the infected pulp and tissue, and then we clean the area thoroughly to get rid of any lingering bacteria that may cause another round of infection.

When that’s done, we seal the tooth with a sealant so that bacteria can’t enter it again. To be sure of this, we usually place a crown on the tooth. Not only does the crown provide additional protection, but it also makes your tooth look much better.

If you don’t get a root canal treatment when you need it, your problem could worsen. It can become serious enough to cause bone loss in your jaw which can lead to even bigger problems.

If you have any of the symptoms that may indicate the need for a root canal, call us right away at (770) 962-4322. We can schedule you for an immediate appointment so that you don’t have to bear the pain much longer. At Optima Dental, we can preserve your tooth and get rid of the pain with our root canal treatment. Contact us now!
